Our First Christmas

Monson and I both agree that this Christmas was one of our favorites. We started off the season with Coronavirus. That kept us inside the entire first two weeks of December. That wasn't our favorite, haha. Luckily we had already got our tree and decorations by then. We were not too extremely affected by the sickness and we are so grateful. So most of the season was spent inside watching Christmas movies and making cookies. We had to have a friend come over and taste test the frosting for us because we couldn't taste it, Haha! (Don't worry, we weren't contagious anymore). We were able to receive so much service and love from others during this time. Our friends Kate Hulon and Olivia Murphy would go pick up groceries for us. People offered to make us dinner. My coworkers were so kind and came and did Socially Distanced Christmas caroling. It made us feel so loved!

As for the Holiday itself we went down to Utah. On our drive we listened to a book series that we love! If you need a good book to read: The King Fountain Series by: Jeff Wheeler. We love it and it makes the car rides bearable. We will always take book recommendations for our car rides!

Utah was amazing. It was so so SO good to be with family again. We hadn't seen them since Thanksgiving. We spent the 23rd, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Morning at the McKay's house. We had a Scottish night in which Hunter put on a program honoring our Scottish heritage as well as honoring Benson's Military Service. The program was complete with Scottish food, short historical stories, and a performance of the Bagpipes. It was fun to watch Amy Kate and Scottie dance to it!

Christmas Eve we had a dinner with family and a program about the Saviors Birth. I loved singing the Christmas Hymns and feeling the Spirit of it all. We also watched Scrooge, it's a musical version of the Christmas Carol. Going to bed that night is always magical. I'm 22 years old and I still can't sleep through the night!

We woke up the next morning and opened gifts. I loved watching everyones reactions! It was also fun to be a part of Monson's family's traditions. I'm now noticing how happy everyone was that morning. Everyone was smiling. We packed up after having breakfast and went to the Newman's house. We played games with them and opened gifts. Slowly siblings trickled in and soon enough there was a full on party going on! It was loud... and a little crazy... But I am glad that the little Grandkids are such good friends and have fun together. I especially love watching little kids around Christmas time. I love how excited they get!

The rest of the trip was spent playing games, taking family pictures with the McKays, going to dinner with the Newman Siblings and Spouses, and wishing we didn't have to come home. Monson and I both love this time of year. It is a time filled with such light and joy from thinking of the Savior more. We are so grateful for His birth and the hope He gives. This holiday especially made us miss living near our families. We can't wait until we can be back in Utah with them again!

Here's some pictures!

Our Christmas Pajamas. We didn't get the shirts in time for Christmas, so we took this picture after we did!

Christmas cookies!!!

Opening our stockings! We did it before we came down for the holiday so we wouldn't have to bring it with us

Our Advent Calendar. Each little ornament has a name of the Savior and a Scripture on the back to match. Monson is a goof!

Christmas Eve... without our shirts, but somehow we managed to bring matching shirts anyway!

Ice Castles

So this happened about a week ago, I just haven't got a round to writing about it yet. I have always wanted to go to Ice Castles. I heard about the ones in Utah but never went. The ones here in Idaho did not disappoint! I really want to know how in the world they build these things because honestly... It's INCREDIBLE! There was so much detail to everything there. There were tons of different color lit tunnels to walk through and explore. There was even a staircase that went up to a bridge and a few towers. There was also a fire juggler and sleigh rides. In all it was just a really good time! And it was cool because inside of the ice caves it wasn't too cold. That helped make it more enjoyable for sure. Monson and I had a good time dancing together to the music they were playing. He sure makes me happy. Life is good at the Mckay house!

The Start of Our Blog

The other night as I was studying the scriptures, I read a verse of scripture that really struck me. 1 Nephi 18:9. It is the story of Lehi's family on the boat to the promised land. It talked about how Laman, Lemuel, and others started to make themselves merry and "speak with much rudeness".  I had never really thought much about this scripture other than it just being another part to the story. But in the moment I read it last night I had the distinct thought that I needed to delete my Instagram and Facebook account and start a family blog. I have noticed recently that I have spent so much time on these social media platforms just scrolling looking for funny videos. A lot of these videos have "much rudeness" in them... To put it lightly. I thought of how those things drive away the Spirit. For Lehi's family it caused a storm that drove them back upon the waters. I knew I needed to do it but part of me was sad because I really love keeping up with people. Ho...
